what's up
Our
regular readers will recall that dwp was B-BBEE
rated for the first time in 2007. This year we were up
for re-verification and after much anticipation, we are
pleased to announce our brand spanking-new rating for
2008/2009!
dwp was once again rated according to the Qualifying-Small Enterprise Scorecard (or better known as the ‘QSE’) and after some nail-biting moments when the DTI suddenly introduced new and perhaps for some ‘more stringent’ requirements, which resulted in the whole re-verification process having to start afresh, we were awarded what is for our unique firm, a sterling result!
The four elements taken into account included employment equity, preferential procurement, enterprise development and socio-economic development, bringing our total score to 83.38% out of a possible 110%.
To sum it all up, dwp has been rated as a Level Three Contributor on the QSE Scorecard, which means we have a 83.38% B-BBEE Recognition Level, not too shabby for a boutique firm.

so you think you can dance?
Was
the question on the lips of one very unhappy Chicago woman!
Lacy Hindman is suing a local lad for … wait for it … “negligent dancing”. The story goes that on a starry night not so long ago, David Prange somewhat forcefully persuaded one protesting Lacy to what could only be described as an adaptation of the infamous jitterbug-dance.

attaching a debtor's immovable property
It
happens at times that that pesky debtor of yours has no movable property
– probably because you are not the first one that rocked up with the
Sheriff in tow to attach his goods to settle his debt to you. If the
debtor owns some immovable property, you will have one more avenue open
to you to have the debt settled, albeit by way of a procedure which is
little more complex than just the attachment of movable items.

jou huis is 'n balk in my oog
Wat
aangrensende eiendomme in Claremont. In hierdie gesogte area in die Kaap
het die bure beweer hierdie beveiliging doen afbreuk aan die estetiese
waarde van hul huis en die buurt.

the golf war
While
the lifestyle on a golf estate may seem idyllic to most of us, do not be
fooled as even perfect situations have the potential of turning sour.
The recent judgment of Allaclas Investments (Pty) Ltd v Milnerton
Golf Club, bears testament to problems encountered on golf estates.
The Appellants purchased a property adjacent to the Milnerton Golf Club, and at all times it was marketed as a golf estate. The Appellants built a house and moved in, sometime March 2003. While one would assume, as the saying goes, they all lived happily ever after, this was not the case. Stray golf balls soon shattered any dreams of the perfect lifestyle they thought they had bought into.

fighting politics online
There is no doubt about it – generation X and Y is firmly rooted online, especially with the advent of mobile phones with internet browsing capabilities. The battle of politics has always been to get the right information to the right people, right on time.
This shift can be seen very well in the current American presidential race, where voters could watch live debates between the candidates online – with the added functionality that viewers could discuss points and pose question between each other directly online.

partner sues wife, father-in-law and her lover for std
A senior partner at Kirkland & Ellis is suing his wife, her lover and her father for giving him genital herpes.
Frederick Tanne claims that his wife has been having affairs left, right and centre but that the latest one left him with a rather nasty dose. He alleges that her lover passed the disease onto his wife and through her onto him, breaching a New York law which states that anyone infected with the disease must make their sexual partners aware of it. He also claims that his wife's father - who is a doctor - helped her conceal the disease by prescribing her treatment.
All in all a rather messy situation. However, rather than just filing for divorce, Tanne has gone public with the issue and is now demanding compensation for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
Tanne's wife has declined to comment on the case but her father claims it's all rubbish. In a statement he said that his daughter definitely didn't have genital herpes and that he had merely prescribed the medicine for a cold sore, adding "she never had a cold sore until she married him".
